Many people in the US report their biggest fear is growing old.  This course is designed to promote understanding about the cause of this common fear. We will clarify usual and atypical processes in multiple areas of development during later life.  You will be introduced to the psychological principles of adult development and aging that should serve as the foundation for your work in the field of aging or perceptions about aging.

Course Objectives:

  1. Articulate the fundamental ideas about aging from the field of gerontology
  2. Challenge stereotypical myths and perceptions about adult development and aging
  3. Discuss typical and atypical process from a biopsychosocial perspective
